An elderly woman (Vanessa Redgrave) who's on her deathbed recalls regrets in her life and her one great love and tries to help her daughters (Toni Collette and Natasha Richardson) find their way toward happiness. SEX/NUDITY 4 - A woman takes a man's shirt off, they kiss passionately, the scene ends and it is implied that they have sex; we see them later lying on the floor covered with a blanket (bare shoulders and his chest are visible).
 A man takes off all his clothes to jump into the sea (we see his bare buttocks and back), and a woman also takes off her clothes down to her corset and panties to jump into the sea (we see her bare shoulders, cleavage and legs). Two women try on dresses, and one is shown in a corset that reveals bare shoulders and cleavage. Women wear low-cut dresses that reveal cleavage and bare shoulders in a few scenes, and a woman wears a low-cut top that reveals cleavage.
 A man who's drunk hugs a man and a woman and he tries to kiss the woman but ends up kissing the man on the lips -- he appears embarrassed but it isn't clear whether he actually wanted to kiss the man or not. A man and a woman kiss in a few scenes.
 A man and a woman dance together and hug.
 A woman talks about offering herself to a man and that she offered to do anything and everything he wanted. A man talks about another man being the first man his sister kissed. A woman makes reference to people having disastrous affairs.

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - A drunken man staggers onto a dark road, a car swerves and strikes him, he is thrown against the windshield, breaking it, and he rolls onto the road (we see the man with a bloody head wound and blood on the ground around him).
 A mother screams uncontrollably when she hears that her son has died.
 A man jumps off a cliff and into the sea: people watch and when he does not surface, others jump in to rescue him; he appears later on a road (wet but otherwise fine) and a woman slaps him hard in the face.
 A woman in a medicated stupor says, "We killed Buddy that night." People talk about taking the "dive" and we see a few people jumping off a cliff and into the sea.
 A man talks about a man having shrapnel in his chest from the Korean War. Two women argue bitterly. A man confesses his love for a woman and she does not return it. A boy tells a joke about a monkey that fell out of a tree "because it was dead." A girl tells her mother that her brother is flatulating.

LANGUAGE 5 - 1 F-word, 2 sexual references, 1 scatological term, 1 anatomical term, 3 mild obscenities, 2 religious profanities, 7 religious exclamations.

SUBSTANCE USE - People are shown drinking and smoking at a party and a man smokes cigarettes and drinks alcohol in many scenes, appears to have a drinking problem and appears drunk in several scenes. Women and men smoke cigarettes in several scenes.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Mistakes, regrets, happiness, humiliation, impulse, failure, waste, life choices, first loves, passion, disappointment, grief, fulfillment, death of a friend, marriage, fear of disappointment, fear of commitment, doing what we think we need to do, death of a sibling, death of a parent, death of a child, marriage.
