"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

The 11th Hour | 2007 | PG | - 2.3.1

Documentary evaluating the enormous and damaging impact of humankind on Earth and arguing that the ultimate destruction of civilization is imminent, unless drastic action is taken immediately. With Leonardo DiCaprio, Mikhail Gorbachev, Paul Hawken, Stephen Hawking and William McDonough. Directed by Leila Conners Peterson & Nadia Conners. [1:35]

SEX/NUDITY 2 - We see a bare-chested man wearing a loincloth-type clothing, and we see a bare-chested man standing in water.
An infant nurses from its mother's breast (the bare breast is visible, with the infant covering the nipple). We see a fetus in utero.

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - We see human bodies being loaded into ambulances, and we see a dead body floating in a flooded roadway.
We see a person's emaciated body (rib bones are pressing against the skin) from the back.

We see a decaying sea creature on a beach, and we see a decaying animal carcass. We see a polar bear foraging through a garbage dump for food.
People trudge through high floodwaters and people are shown taking cover from high winds (the roof is blown off a building).
There are many scenes depicting violent acts of nature and destruction: tornadoes, tsunamis, hurricanes; e also see buildings explode and forests burn, ice shelves break away, and auto exhausts pours from a tail pipe. We see oil fields burning and the resulting clouds of thick smoke.
People talk about Earth ending up like Mars, with severe temperatures and rains of sulfuric acid. People talk about the biosphere being sick, and that mankind is committing suicide. People talk about the potential for a "Dark Age." People talk about acid rain and our over reliance on fossil fuels and that there is "revenge of nature." People talk a about the health of the oceans and people talk about the exponential growth in population that's causing a drain on resources -- "As we destroy nature we are destroying ourselves."

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
