Dragon Wars | 2007 | PG-13 | - 2.6.3

Fantasy taking place in modern-day California about a young woman who can transform a legendary giant serpent into a dragon if she's willing to sacrifice herself. Her reincarnated boyfriend and an elderly mentor help her against the forces of evil, which want to make her their own ally. With Jason Behr, Amanda Brooks, Robert Forster, Chris Mulkey and Elizabeth Peña. Directed by Hyung-rae Shim. [1:40]

SEX/NUDITY 2 - A young man and a young woman kiss, and a young man and a young woman hold hands.
Warriors pull open the dresses of several young women looking for a mark on their shoulders (we see bare shoulders).

VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - People are stabbed and slashed by warriors who search through a village for a girl (we hear cracking and squishing, and no blood evident) and one man is stepped on by a large animal (we see him pinned under its foot).
A huge army of men in armor, along with large animals and some pterodactyl-like flying creatures march and fly toward a village; they then open fire destroying buildings and breaking down walls (we see people being thrown from the explosions and we see people on fire), and the villagers fire back, with little impact.
Many warriors are killed by a man who slashes at them with a sword -- the warriors make sounds like animals when they are struck.
Two men fight with swords: one is slashed on the arm and then the leg (we see a bit of blood and he falls to the ground), and the other man disintegrates and blows away. A man is slashed on the arm during a fight (we see blood on his arm and sleeve).
A large serpent lunges toward a young woman planning to eat her, another serpent attacks it and they fight: we hear crunching from bites and hear them screaming, one turns into a dragon and they continue to fight, and one is shot by the other with a flaming ball and it crumbles into burning embers.
Many flying creatures shoot flaming balls at a speeding car, which flips over and burns; the driver is shown wounded (there's no blood) and unconscious.
A serpent grabs a young woman in its mouth, lifts her in the air, and then drops her in a swimming pool (we see her floating face down in the water and then see her dead on a stretcher later).
A young woman is led to an altar where a man prepares to sacrifice her: she is tied down while a young man is tied to a pole at some the distance, the man raises a dagger over her, a large serpent slithers toward her, rises above her, the sky opens up and a bright light shoots toward them (she's not sacrificed).
A bright light shoots out of the sky and causes many warriors, large animals and other creatures to disintegrate and blow away as dust.
A serpent breaks through the wall of a building, people inside run and scream, it chases a young man and a young woman in a car, and it picks up another car and throws it, causing the other car to crash into it. A serpent grabs a helicopter and throws it to the ground (it crashes and explodes). A serpent chases a speeding car through a parking garage (we see the floor and ceiling being torn up as it goes) and onto the street (the serpent does not catch the car).
We see a large serpent with an elephant in its mouth; it drops the elephant on the ground and we see its bloody wounds (the animal is still alive and suffering), and a man approaches, but then runs away when he sees what is happening.
Many flying creatures attack people on top of a building, other warriors open fire from the ground, and there are many explosions and a lot of debris.
Many armed soldiers charge into a cave, a large serpent charges toward them, the men run out of the cave chased by the serpent, they fire at it, and we see smoldering helicopters on the ground and dead bodies strewn around (no blood) from an earlier attack.
Many police officers fire guns at a serpent, it is struck, it screams and thrashes, and it eats a police car and then slithers away. A large serpent slithers through a city street throwing cars in the air and tearing up the street (people run screaming).
A man shoots a young man (there's no blood and he lies unconscious) and then holds a gun on a young woman. A young woman holds a gun to her head, and a young man pulls it away from her.
A car slams into a man on a street, the man falls to the ground, then gets up and attacks the three people in the car using a sword; they try to fight back (one man is thrown), and the man is then struck by another car, allowing the three to get away (the man gets up).
Three men accost a young woman as she leaves a nightclub, she screams, and another man punches each man throwing them into the air and leaving them unconscious.
A serpent chases a young man and a young woman, and they fall off a cliff into the sea below and we hear that they died.
A serpent breaks through the roof of a house and then slithers across it, crushing the house. A huge serpent slithers along the roof of a building breaking off pieces due to its weight.
A young woman has nightmare: she reaches to unlock her car and its surface changes to snakeskin; she is frightened and backs away and into a man who grabs her around the throat and holds a knife over her (she then wakes up).
Many warriors and large animals come to life from ink drawings on scrolls and prepare to fight.
A young woman levitates off a sofa, light shoots out of her shoulder, wind blows and she falls back down onto the sofa unharmed. A light comes out of a young woman, she collapses, and she turns into a light and floats toward a serpent. A boy stands in front of an antique trunk, it opens itself and a light flashes, and a burst of energy pushes the boy back and he looks into the light (he is not harmed).
Warriors pull open the dresses of several young women looking for a mark on their shoulders.
A young man practices fighting using a stick and a sword and another man joins in briefly. A man grabs his chest and pretends to be having a heart attack.
A man dressed in black has pointed metal tips on his gloves and we see him walk through a fence. An evil warrior speaks in an extremely deep and garbled voice and has a red eye.
A large serpent leaps out of the water, growls and snarls and then goes back into the water.
We see the aftermath of a large explosion that has left a long, deep trench in the ground (cars are crushed and there is other debris).
A man tells another man that his daughter will be sacrificed or disaster will befall their village. A wife dies during childbirth (we see her lying motionless and her husband grieves over her). We see a girl at a gravesite grieving over her father. A man yells in a panic about a beast and he is taken away by police. We see a man in a straightjacket after he talks about seeing an enormous serpent eating elephants. A man relates a story about two serpents, one good and one evil, and that the evil one was banished from heaven and sent to earth.
A street person is sprayed with water as a car speeds by.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
