"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

Doom | 2005 | R | - 5.8.7

Film version of the eponymous video game, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Sarge, the leader of a group of highly trained troops whose mission it is to retrieve six scientists from a research facility on Mars. The facility also houses civilians and they appear to be under attack by nightmarish creatures of unknown origins. Also with Karl Urban, Rosamund Pike, Ben Daniels and Razaaq Adoti. Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak. [1:40]

SEX/NUDITY 5 - A dead woman's shirt is open and reveals her bare breast. We see a standee of a nude woman squatting and holding a baseball mitt nearly covering her bare breasts (part are exposed along with a bare buttock, bare thighs and abdomen). Several women wear low-cut tops that reveal cleavage in several scenes and a woman wears a tight-fitting white sweater throughout the movie. A man is bare-chested.
A man makes a remark about wanting to lock himself in a hotel room with a bottle of alcohol and three boys. A man tells three young women that he will have to do a "strip search" because of a security threat.

VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - There are several creatures represented: One type is a human zombie-looking being that lumbers about and appears to crave flesh, another is a slime-covered being with several eyes, sharp teeth, a long wriggling tongue and sharp claws, and yet another is an animalistic creature with long, sharp teeth.
A creature lops the head off a man (we hear a crunch and see the head bounce on the floor and the body collapse) and we see the body with a puddle of blood on the floor.
A man sees shimmering eyes in a dark tunnel, a creature lunges at him, presses him against a wall, takes a bite out of his neck and a slithering "tongue" tries to go into the man through the wound; other men with guns shoot the creature and the tongue.
A man is grabbed by a creature, slammed back and forth into large pipes, thrown into a holding cell with electrical fencing around it, and the man swings a computer monitor at the creature hitting it; then the man Is thrown into the fence, he is held against the fence and shocked, he stabs the creature, hits it repeatedly with a long stick, and pins it against the fence where it is shocked, but it frees itself, grabs the man (now trying to climb out of the cell) and pulls him down to the floor again, where he lies motionless (he has a very bloody face and head).
A man is grabbed by the face from above, he is pulled up through the ceiling, held by the feet and swung back and forth slamming into walls, and a plasma gun is fired and makes a huge hole in the ceiling and wall and the man is thrown to the floor (we see him covered with rubble and he appears to be dead).
A man is pulled through a wall (called a "nano wall" that in one state you can walk through and in another it is solid); blood spurts as the wall closes and crushes him. A man falls through a floor, he is pulled down, blood spurts from his mouth and he is pulled through the floor. A man is grabbed by the head, swung back and forth slamming into walls, and dragged away by a creature. A man is shot in the throat, he falls back, bleeds profusely, gurgles and dies.
A man shoots a creature in the mouth (we hear squish and see blood splatter). Many zombie creatures and people who are in the process of transforming into creatures, run toward several men with guns, and many zombies and transforming people are shot.
Several people run through passageways screaming: one man is pulled down through grates in the floor, another man is pulled up through the ceiling, a woman runs toward a doorway, the door closes on her arm, severs it (the severed arm flops to the floor, with blood spurting) and we hear her screaming when she is attacked on the other side of the door; something (we see no details) breaks a hole in the door and a man looks at it with a terrified expression.
A dead man turned zombie creature climbs out of a body bag (we see his bloody wounds), he pounds his head against a shatterproof glass wall until he breaks his skull and falls to the floor, dead again (we are told he killed himself in this way). Several presumably dead people are shot to make sure they are dead. Two dead men are found with bloody wounds.
A man is injected with something and we see the man snarl and writhe and begin to transform (his hands begin to enlarge and become snarled and he sprouts long nails).
Armed men chase a figure through a passageway (we hear snarling and growling), and they find a man cowering and quivering in the corner with a bloody wound on his neck and holding a severed arm in his hand; as they approach him the man rips his own ear off (we hear a tear and see blood pour).
Two men fight, one shoots at the other, who also fires back, and one swings a large piece of metal at the other, and they continue to fight with many punches and kicks: one man is pushed with his throat against bars and begins to gasp, he frees himself, one man punches the other man in the face (he has a metal bar wrapped around his hand), and he continues to punch the man several more times, and a piece of the metal is poked through the man's hand (he bleeds and we hear a squish).
A creature carrying a saw approaches a man and swings the saw at him: the man is pushed down and held, an explosive is set off and the creature is blown up, and blood rains down. An animal-like creature attacks a man, it snarls and snaps at him, it tries to bite him, and the man attacks it with a saw, and then shoots it.
Many zombies are shot, one is shot in the head and it splatters, and a dead body hangs from the feet while a mouse gnaws on its remains (we hear crunching). A zombie eats a rat (we hear a crunch and see the tail wriggling between his teeth), and then picks up a knife and lunges toward two men holding guns, who shoot it.
A woman performs an autopsy on a creature, she spreads apart its rib cage (we hear cracking), and she pulls out several organs with lots of blood, slime and squishy sounds accompanying each extraction. Bloody tissue and matter dangle from cages where animals had been kept. We see a man's bloody abdominal wound.
A zombie hits itself in the head with an axe and is then shot. A man pulls back a covering and we see a dead creature with many eyes, large teeth, and wrinkled, slimy skin. A man has a large wound on his neck, and we hear something slithering within it.
We see many dead bodies with bloody wounds and missing limbs. Jars containing liquid and beating human hearts are seen in a laboratory along with other organs and tissue segments.
A vicious dog snarls and barks at a man and a woman, the man aims a gun at the dog, and the dog cowers and leaves; a large creature approaches the man from behind, it tries to bite the man (the man has a bloody wound on his arm), and he runs through a "nano wall" that closes behind him and traps the creature in it -- the creature does spit its tongue out at the man before being stopped and we see part of the creature in the wall still wriggling and snarling.
A man cuts a cross in his arm after using a religious profanity. A wounded man on a medical table is shocked with a defibrillator and injected in the chest with adrenaline (he does not respond). A bloody and wounded man lunges toward a woman (he does not harm her). A man appears to begin to transform into a creature (his hands crack and become enlarged with long, thick nails).
A man falls under the surface of water as he and several others walk through a water-filled passage; the others struggle to pull him up thinking he has been grabbed by a creature.
A wounded man yells, and there is a bright flash as a bomb explodes destroying him. A man touches an electrified wall and is shocked. A monkey screeches and lunges at a man who fires his gun repeatedly.
We hear a recording of people screaming while they are being attacked. A monkey screeches in a cage and dogs bark viciously.
Men find a lab coat stained with blood. We see blood with chunks in it in a few scenes (sometimes dripping, one time collected in a syringe). A man is given an injection and blood dribbles from the injection site.
There are several scenes where armed men move stealthily through dark passageways, they hear or see movement, and figures in deep shadow move near them and they fire their weapons.
A man has a body from the waist up and his lower half is a wheel chair system that appears to be attached to his spinal column. When people are "transported" from one planet to another they step into what looks like a bubble of gelatinous goo, and they are shot through the atmosphere and are spat out in their normal form on the other side. A man hears voices and remembers the day that his parents were killed in an accident. A man shoves another man against a wall and threatens him.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
