During WWII, an ordinary woman (Cate Blanchett) agrees to help the British war effort by becoming an undercover courier in Southern France. She also hopes to find her lover, an RAF pilot who was shot down but may be alive and sheltered by the French Resistance. Also with Billy Crudup, Michael Gambon, Rupert Penry-Jones, Anton Lesser, Ron Cook, John Pierce Jones and John Benfield. [2:01]

SEX/NUDITY 4 - A man touches a woman's face and tells her to kiss him; when she does he begins to grope her and tries to put his hand up her skirt but she manages to stop him by saying "I'm dirty down there" (we see the top of her stockings and part of her thigh). A man and woman begin kissing passionately, they get down on the ground and he begins unbuttoning her blouse. A man and woman lie in bed together (presumably after having had sex) and they kiss and caress each other; we see the man's bare chest and the woman's bare back and shoulders. A man and woman kiss and embrace each other, a woman kisses a man to keep him quiet, a man and woman kiss, a woman kisses a man on the cheek. We see a woman in a full slip that exposes her bare shoulders.

VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - A group of people are gunned down with machine guns; we see their bodies jerking and hear them crying out. A man opens the door of his house and is shot by someone inside; we see blood splattering his companion and see him propelled back against a railing and he slumps down dead. Explosives are planted on railroad tracks and as the train passes over them, it explodes sending people and parts of the train and its cargo through the air; we see one man in flames. A group of people run toward the wreckage of the train firing their guns at soldiers who fire back; one man is shot and falls back on the ground, and one man is badly wounded in the stomach; we see his blood-covered hands holding his wounded abdomen and hear him moaning. A man grabs a woman, shoves her against a wall and points a gun at her and another man standing in front of her. A man gropes a woman and tries to force himself on her, but she manages to stop him. A man and woman kick and punch a soldier until he's unconscious. A woman is chased through a house by policemen who have their guns drawn. A woman threatens a man with a gun. Two young boys hiding in an attic are found by soldiers and taken away. Two young boys and a man are loaded onto train cars that are packed with people (presumably headed for work or concentration camps). An elderly woman is hit in the face with a rifle butt. There are a few scenes of combat training, with people running through obstacle courses and practicing with guns. A woman parachutes from a plane and lands in a field almost on top of two young boys who run away in fear. A woman hits a man on the head with a hairbrush. There are discussions of a pilot's plane having gone down and we see photos of a charred dead body lying in a tree. A woman is arrested and we hear later that she was killed. Two young boys look through their house for their parents but cannot find them; we hear that their parents were taken away by the gendarmerie and sent to Poland because they were Jewish. A woman yells at a boy. A man urinates on a stairwell and we see the stream and hear the trickle. A man has scars on his hand.

LANGUAGE 5 - 3 F-words, 3 scatological terms, 2 anatomical terms, 4 mild obscenities, 6 religious exclamations, 1 derogatory term for the French.

SUBSTANCE USE - People are frequently shown drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes.

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Good vs. evil, Nazis, Communism, WWII, torture, POWs, betrayal, curfews, foreign occupation, bravery, fate, the French Resistance, self-deception.

MESSAGE - War changes everyone. Ordinary people can find extraordinary courage under difficult circumstances.
