Cats and Dogs | 2001 | PG | - 0.4.3

Humans have been oblivious to the fact that dogs have been fighting for thousands of years to keep humankind from falling under the rule of the cats. When Mr. Tinkles (voice of Sean Hayes), a rogue cat, initiates a plan to disable the world's dog population by making humans allergic to all manner of canines and thus leaving humans defenseless against feline tyranny, a team of super secret agent dogs and a puppy named Lou (voice of Tobey Maguire) come to the rescue and save humans from slavery. Also with Jeff Goldblum, Elizabeth Perkins, Alexander Pollock, Alec Baldwin, Michael Clarke Duncan, Joe Pantoliano and Susan Sarandon. [1:33]

Three people are tied to chairs in a burning office. A dog bone explodes, nearly blowing up a dog. A factory explodes with sparks flying, windows crashing and the building bursts open. A woman hits a dog with a broom. A dog is surrounded by cats who presumably attack him: we see the dog later, covered with a fishing net and whimpering. A dog runs into a closed window face first and slides down leaving a streak of slobber, and a dog tries to catapult himself through a window but falls short, crashing into a window ledge and falling hard on the ground. A cat is catapulted from a tree and flies through an open kitchen window knocking a woman down to the floor, and a cat slams into the divider window in a limousine. A woman in a car nearly hits a cat. We see a cat lying still in the street (we assume she has been hit by a car, but she is pretending). A cat holding a big knife yells at another cat. A group of ninja cats hang from flying machines, are dropped and open parachutes -- they also wear green night-vision goggles. There's a chase between a cat and a dog; the dog knocks down two people carrying groceries and eventually runs head-first into a tree. A dog dangles from a tree limb trying to reach a cat and the cat scratches him causing him to fall. A dog dangles from a cabinet which nearly falls on top of him. CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
