Casa de Mi Padre | 2012 | R | - 6.8.6

In a Spanish-language spoof of 1970's Mexican westerns, a man (Will Ferrell) and his brother (Diego Luna) feud over the use of their father's land. Their feud grows stronger when a neighboring drug lord (Gael Garcia Bernal) learns that one of the men is marrying his niece. Also with Nick Offerman, Pedro Armendariz Jr., Efren Ramirez and Genesis Rodriguez. Directed by Matt Piedmont. [1:24]

SEX/NUDITY 6 - During a prolonged scene a man and a woman stand facing one another while kissing: moments later they grasp one another's bare buttocks repeatedly with the man squeezing and caressing the woman's buttocks and the woman running her hands over the man's buttocks; sex is implied and we see the man's legs on top of the fake legs of a female mannequin (for comedic effect), the man's bare buttocks are seen thrusting, we then see the bare buttocks of the mannequin "thrusting" on top of the man and the man and the woman are seen sleeping side-by-side and discovered by three men who make a sexual joke about the man and the woman.
A man and a woman kiss passionately. A man kisses a woman and then shoves her away. A man holds a woman's face (she is his niece) in his hands and they appear about to kiss until the woman pulls away, slapping the man after he makes a sexual remark. A man grabs a woman's buttocks as he tries to push her onto a horse; it appears very awkward.
A woman takes off her dress and is shown wearing a sheer slip. A man undresses and is shown wearing long underwear (we see a portion of his bare chest and later his bare back and chest when he unbuttons the top portion of the long underwear). We see a shirtless man with his bare chest and back visible. Throughout the movie, women wear extremely short, tight-fitting, low-cut and cleavage exposing dresses. A woman wears a sheer white slip, she goes into a pool of water and the slip becomes transparent and clings to her body. We see women in the background wearing bikinis.
On multiple occasions a man is teased about his sexual identity by other men, including the man's father, who says he does not know a woman who would be interested in "sleeping in the dirt" with the man. A man makes a joke to two other men that he would "never get out of bed" if he "had" a woman. An older man makes a crude toast about his son being able to "sleep with" his attractive fiancée. A man makes a crude joke about another man having no genitals and he then tells three other men that he is really enjoying jokes about genitals.

VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - During a prolonged, slow motion gun battle, we see a crowded wedding shot up by gunmen with extremely fake looking "blood" spraying in slow-motion from the wounds as many people are struck by bullets; we see the dead bodies slung over chairs, "blood" is seen on dead people's clothing and dripping from wedding decorations, a man is shot multiple times causing his body to twist from the bullet impact and we see his adult son comfort him as he lies, dying -- the man is then seen in a bed with a bloody bandage around his chest and he slowly dies while one of his adult sons watches.
During a prolonged, slow motion gun battle between two groups of men, we see a man fall from a rooftop and hit the ground with a thud, we see three men drop to the ground after we hear gunshots, a man is shot three times in the chest, many shots are fired at a man as he tries to run away and one gunshot hits him in the back (very fake looking blood sprays from the wound); the man's brother comforts him as he dies in his arms (the man's dead body is later seen floating in a fountain, with blood staining the water).
A man holds a woman hostage at gunpoint: the man then aims the gun at another man holding a rifle, he fires and misses and is simultaneously shot by the second man; the first gunman slumps over and clutches his chest, slowly falling down a long flight of stairs before landing at the bottom and dying (we see very fake blood covering the man's body).
A man approaches a house, we see several men poised to defend the house, the man fires seven gunshots and it is implied that each shot hits a different person; a man is seen falling into an open window and another man is seen falling through a doorway after being shot as a spray of fake blood is seen on his chest.
A man explains to a woman that his mother had been murdered, while we see a flashback to when he was a child and four men approach him and his mother, demanding a gun; the men grab the woman, the boy accidentally shoots her in the stomach (a large spray of blood is visible from the woman's stomach and shown in black and white) and she dies moments later.
Three men grab another man, and one of the men holds his arms back as the other two kick and beat him with a chain; three other men hidden in the distance watch as a fourth man appears and shoots the victim in the head (the man's dead body is seen being dragged behind a truck as it drives quickly away).
After telling a man that he had murdered his mother because he had not been allowed to rape her, a police officer holds a gun to the man's face while a second police officer shoots the first police officer in the back; the second police officer then aims his gun at the man and a third police officer shoots the second police officer in the head (a dramatic spray of obviously fake blood is seen on the ground and the man and third police officer are unharmed).
A man shoots multiple men with a rifle, we hear the shots and see two men thrown back into windows and through doorways. A man shoots an unseen man and we see the body drop from a balcony. A man punches two other men in the face causing them to dramatically fall to the ground, and a third man grabs a rifle and shoots the man (we see obviously fake blood appear on the man's shirt in three places); the gunman makes a remark about leaving the man to die and walks away.
A man and a woman approach a burning car where we see a dying man on the ground next to the car (fake blood is shown covering his shirt and chest and a splash of blood is seen on his face); the woman clutches the dying man's head in her lap and he dies moments later.
A man pulls a severed hand (it appears fake) from a paper bag; the flesh of the thumb is missing and we see a bone sticking out of the joint while flies buzz around the open wound at the wrist (the man is nonplussed by the hand and places it in front of him).
A woman tells a man that her father had been murdered when she was young and she was sent to live with an uncle that burned her with cigarettes and drank rubbing alcohol (it is implied the woman was also sexually abused by her uncle, but she does not explain). A man shouts at his brother, saying he would kill the man responsible for their father's death; the other man shouts back, saying that their father had died of shame. A man tells another man, "Mexicans killing Mexicans, let them kill each other." A man laughs and tells a woman that another man is dead. Throughout the movie we see an older man shout at his adult son. Two brothers shout at one another frequently. A man makes a mean toast concerning his brother when the brother drops his glass and the two men shout at one another. A man tells his brother and father that he had witnessed "a killing" and vaguely describes how he had seen a man beaten, shot and then dragged behind a car. A man tells another man that his father had been shot and was dying. A man warns two other men that it is "dangerous" for them and their family because one of the men is a drug dealer.
A man lightly slaps another man multiple times on the cheek, and two men get out of a car to help the man being slapped and stop when a man in the background pulls back his jacket to reveal a handgun in his waistband. A man roughly grabs another man's arm and we hear countless guns being drawn and safeties being clicked off (we do not see any of the gunmen). Several men fire shots into the air until the ground is littered with empty bullet shells and they shout that they are going to kill a man.
A man throws a woman (his niece) from a balcony, we see her floating in slow motion through the air and another man grabs her before she hits the ground. A woman tries to punch and slap a man; she hits his face twice before the man holds her arms back, she struggles to continue slapping him and the man shoves her to the ground and walks away. A woman slaps a man.
A wounded man experiences a hallucination where he believes a mountain lion is dragging his injured body away and a wolf tries to lick the wounds (we see a momentary flash of the man's father being shot and dying and a statue shattering on the ground as a woman screams) until the man awakens unharmed except for a claw mark on his face. We see a still-motion photograph of a fake looking, taxidermy mountain lion and coyote posed to attack, with a male mannequin on the ground and with a splash of red paint to represent blood on its chest; a letter scrolls in front of the scene, explaining that the scene was originally a coyote attacking and trying to eat a mountain lion but the coyote had begun to do cocaine and killed some of the crewmembers of the movie (please see the Substance Use category for more details). We see an animatronic lion (clearly fake) and a man tries to draw a gun and shoot it while another man tells him to put down his gun. A man makes a series of crude remarks about defecation, implying that he is going to turn a man into defecation and his farm into flatulence.
A woman in a pond ducks underwater after telling a man that she cannot swim; the man wades into the chest-high water, pulls the woman to the surface and shouts at her for attempting to kill herself.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
