"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

The Boys and Girl from County Clare | 2005 | NR | - 6.3.8

Set in the 1960s on the eve of the All-Ireland Traditional Music Competition, the story revolves around a few of the competitors: One man (Colm Meaney) who left Ireland decades ago to make his fortune heads a band from Liverpool and seems to think he'll win, while his estranged brother (Bernard Hill) is convinced he's got it locked up. Also with Andrea Corr, Patrick Bergin and Catherine Byrne. Directed by John Irvin. [1:30]

SEX/NUDITY 6 - We see the silhouette of a man and a woman having sex in a tent (we see her thrusting while lying on him and see the outline of her breasts). A man in a tent watches as a woman undresses to go swimming (we see her bare buttocks); he continues to watch when she returns and we see her bare breasts and abdomen. A woman wears a low-cut top that reveals cleavage, and we see a man in his jockey shorts (he's bare-chested).
A man and a woman kiss, and a man and a woman hug. A man talks about a woman being "beautiful," he admires her and appears smitten.
We hear that two men bet a violin on who would take a woman home at the end of a night. A character says, "He'll charm you into bed." A man makes reference to "the big fella down below."

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - A woman hits a man hard in the face, a man smacks a boy on the back of the head in a few scenes, and a stopper pops out of a bagpipe and hits a boy in the head. We hear what we think is a man hitting a boy and taking his violin (off-screen) and a man tosses a cat down to the ground from a second story window (we hear the cat squealing).
A man yells at two men, two men yell at each other, and two men argue over a woman. A woman threatens to cut a part of a man's anatomy off and a man threatens to squeeze a part of a man's anatomy in an accordion. A man talks about someone putting a part of his anatomy in a "mangler." A woman falls into water, a man panics when she does not surface (she's OK though), and a man falls back into water.
A woman vomits on a man's shirt, and a man vomits (we hear gagging and see goo), we see a pair of false teeth lying in the goo and a man picks them up. A man appears to feel ill (he gags), and a man runs from a table while gagging.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
