SEX/NUDITY 7 - A woman takes off her coat and we see cleavage, and she removes her top and bra we see her upper chest as she and a man kiss; she then caresses his head (sex is implied) and we see the woman in bed later and fully nude in profile when she gets out of bed (breasts, abdomen, legs and a buttock are seen). We hear sexual moaning coming from behind frosted glass where we see flesh tones and silhouettes of bodies (there are no details) having sex.
Several fully nude male and female replicant bodies are shown in cases and we see them fully nude, including genitalia and breasts. A fully nude female replicant falls out of a giant plastic bag and onto the floor (we see bare breasts, abdomen, buttocks and hairless genitals briefly). Two fully nude male corpses lie in a morgue and we see their bare chests, abdomens, pubic hair and partial genitals. A fully nude female hologram is shown as an advertisement and we see her bare breasts, buttocks, abdomen and back (her genitals are not shown).
A woman wears a short top that reveals her abdomen. Several large holograms dance through streets; one is a ballerina wearing a tutu and we see her tights-covered legs to the leotard line at the hip and another is of a woman wearing a short skirt that reveals her bare abdomen, underwear and partial buttocks. Several scantily clad women are shown on the street (presumably prostitutes); we see cleavage, bare abdomens and partial buttocks. A woman wears a short coat that reveals her bare legs to the upper thighs. We see several giant structures in the shape of nude women in a variety of poses (they're sexually suggestive) and we see bare breasts with erect nipples, bare buttocks, abdomens and legs. Several women wearing showgirl/cabaret costumes dance and we see cleavage, bare abdomens and legs to the hips. A woman wears a low-cut dress that reveals cleavage. A nude man is seen in profile in the background of a scene and we see his buttock. A nude man showers and we see his bare shoulders and upper chest.
A man and a woman caress each other; the man nuzzles her neck and they are interrupted. A man kisses a woman (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details). A woman kisses a man on the cheek. A woman holds a man around the shoulders and speaks to him softly.
A woman flirts with a man, touches his hand, then stops and says, "You don't like real girls." We understand that some replicants are created for "pleasure." A hologram of a woman stands in a seductive pose and we read, "Everything you want to hear" (it is an ad presumably for pleasure models), and then later we read, "Everything you want to see."

VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - A man draws a knife and tries to stab another man pinning him against a wall; they fight with punches and kicks and break the wall to rubble, one man punches the other repeatedly and he gasps, one man pulls the other's eye open wide and after shooting him twice we see the man with a bloody eyeball in a plastic bag (we see blood on the surviving man's head and face).
A woman drinks from a glass that another woman squeezes in her hand breaking the glass and drawing blood (we see it drip from the woman's hand); then the second woman slashes the first across the abdomen and stabs her (she falls dead silently). A man with a scalpel caresses a woman's face as she quivers and he stabs her (she grunts and we see blood rush down her legs before she collapses on the floor dead). A man is struck hard on the back of the head; he gurgles as his eyes fill with blood and he spits blood as he dies on the floor. A woman shoots another woman in the head (we see blood spray and she slumps to the floor dead).
An explosion throws two men and a dog; one man has shrapnel in his abdomen and it is very bloody and the other man is dragged away by two other men but he fights them and he is punched and taken to a vessel, and the first man shoots a couple of attacking men before he is punched and kicked and falls unconscious. A flying vessel is shot at from the ground, then struck with a harpoon attached to a kite and its power goes out causing it to crash to the ground where a group of men cut the door open and pull the pilot out; a man with a crowbar charges the pilot and the pilot snaps his back over his knee, then shoots several other men (blood sprays) just as explosive pummel the ground around them throwing many men into the air (we see an aerial view with blood pools on and around several bodies) and a man is shown with a piece of shrapnel in his side and the wound is very bloody. Two flying vessels are shot out of the sky and we see the passengers of one vessel as it fills with water; a man outside the vessel shoots two of the remaining people inside and blood splatters. A man shoots at a man and he falls back over a balcony (we see an imprint of a body in a layer of dust on the ground but no body); the first man chases him through a large building and shoots at him several times and the he punches him repeatedly in the face (we see his face and head bloodied and he spits blood). A man trips an explosive and a room is blown up. A man runs through a stone wall and breaks it to rubble.
A man and a woman fight with punches and repeated kicks, one draws a knife and slashes at the other, and then stabs the other in the abdomen (we see blood pour from the wound); one holds the other by the throat and then under water until there is no more movement. A young boy hides in a large, dark furnace area after being chased by several other boys who surround him and beat and kick him (we see the boys throwing punches and kicks but do not see the results. A man punches another man in the nose (we see it bloodied).
We see many young children wearing ragged clothing in a dark setting where they surround low tables and work to disassemble items for their parts while a man paces around berating them. A man puts his hand into a beehive and we see his hand covered with many buzzing bees.
A woman lifts a dead woman off the floor and holds her head for a facial recognition scan, and then drops her, hitting her head hard on a desk. A man is shown with a bloody gash on his arm and when he presses it together with his fingers, it closes itself. Two male corpses are shown on morgue tables (please see the Sex/Nudity category for more details). A man is shown with discolored eyes and it is implied that he is vision impaired. We see human bones laid out on a medical table as several people discuss the possible cause of death. Blood is washed off the walls of a building. A man is shown with bandages on his face and a bloody abdominal wound. A woman is shown with an empty eye socket.
A man holds a gun on another man while a dog stands in the shadows behind the second man. A man is shown wearing a hazmat-type suit and he dips his hand in water with a green film on the surface; he draws up a handful of grub-like creatures and puts them back in the water (he says that he is a protein farmer).
A man threatens another man with torture. A man yells and kicks a chair. A woman yells at a man and tells him that he has a period of time to get himself together before there will be punishment. A man puts a gun on a table and tells another man that he can either take him in or the alternative (presumably kill him). A woman talks about a situation causing a war or a slaughter. References are made to "pre-blackout" and we are told that everything electronic was lost after the blackout, and that only paper remained. A woman says, "I held her as she died." We hear a voice recording of a woman saying, "I'd kill it." A man remarks about the smell in another man's cabin and he says it's garlic. A woman says, "I've known a lot of your kind." People discuss levels of radioactivity and dirty bombs.
Several scenes are accompanied by booming music and discordant noises. We see scenes of parts of Earth as wastelands and hear about famine and the development of synthetic farming. Several scenes show areas with a thick cloud cover and sometimes what looks like snow falls from the sky. We see an expansive waste depository with piles of rubble. An isolated area with a cabin and a greenhouse is set on fire (we see it engulfed in flames).

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
